The National Kidney Federation (NKF) is the only charity in the United Kingdom Run by Kidney Patients for Kidney Patients. Its mission is to promote the best renal medical practice and treatment, the health of those suffering from chronic kidney disease or renal failure, and supporting the needs of relatives and friends who care for kidney patients.
When the charity recognised the need to develop its relationships with its members, supporters and campaigners, and to develop the potential for increased support from its sponsors, it selected ProgressCRM from Fisk Brett.
"The National Kidney Federation is unique because, although there are a large number of kidney charities, the NKF is the only kidney charity actually run by kidney patients, organised regionally as Kidney Patient Associations (KPAs)" explained Office Manager Margaret Parkin. "Currently there are 69 KPAs, representatives forming the controlling ‘council' of the Federation".
NKF distributes its own quarterly magazine to more than 19,000 renal patients; holds its own 3 day Conference; and campaigns for improved provision of renal treatment and patient care. When NKF wanted to forge even closer relationships with other kidney organisations in the UK and worldwide, it realised that ProgressCRM fundraising database would not only enable the charity to manage campaigns and appeals, and develop relationships with all its member organisations and supporters; but also manage all the financial processing of memberships and donations too.
"We wanted to increase our support of the KPAs' patients who are struggling to maintain their local services, and we have restructured to take on this responsibility, at the same time improving our business processes" said Margaret Parkin. "The CRM database will be a key component of our future growth". There have been many advances in renal care since the foundation of the NKF in 1978, but the charity hopes to see real strides being made in adequate provision and that scientific developments will head off the ten-yearly doubling of renal patient numbers.
