The Legacy module is part of the ProgressCRM suite of modules and is designed to allow the recording and management of legacy bequests. It enables your organisation to record the details of legacy bequests; and payments received against a legacy bequest.

From the module's Configuration tab, options are available to maintain legacy types, categories, notification types and other beneficiary details. Legacy types and categories are used together to classify your legacy bequests.

Legacy Types

You can create legacy types, one of which will be associated with your legacy bequests - each legacy type is represented by a code which can contain up to 10 characters and a description.

Typically the legacy types created include:

  • Pecuniary - This is a simple clause in a will where a gift of money is left to another individual or charity. An example is "I leave £100 to ..."
  • Residual - in this case, the residue of an estate is bequeathed and is often used where people are unclear of their net worth
  • Specified - a donor can give an object or specified property away in a will, which would otherwise be sold and the money go into the estate for distribution
  • Discretionary

Legacy Categories

In the same way, you create legacy categories, typically:

  • Absolute
  • Conditional - should a beneficiary of the will die before the legator, the bequest will revert to the second beneficiary
  • Vested - the bequest is given in terms that there is a fixed right to its payment

Legacy Notification Types

Notification types are used to record any legacy notification received from Smee and Ford. Example notification types are Proven where your organisation been specifically mentioned or Discretion where your organisation may receive a discretionary bequest.

Other Beneficiaries

The ProgressCRM Legacy Module allows you to maintain a list of other organisations that may be beneficiaries of a Will where your organisation receives a legacy bequest. This information is useful for analysis.

Legacy Bequests

Legacy Bequests should be recorded against the person making the legacy bequest - the legator.
