Task Centre SMS Inbound provides a powerful method of interacting with contacts through ProgressCRM using ubiquitous mobile text messaging.

Using the SMS Inbound toolset, organisations can automate communication with contacts in ways that would otherwise be carried out by telephone, email or letter. Some potential scenarios where SMS Inbound could be used include:

  • Receipt of donation pledges. As a result of a PR campaign, pledges are made by text to a premium rate text number charging £1.50 per donation. The donor is asked to include their name and email address in the text message to receive an acknowledgement. When the text is received by SMS Inbound, a search of the ProgressCRM database is carried out to establish whether the mobile phone number, name or email address matches an existing contact. If no record is found, a contact record is created automatically containing the contact's mobile phone number, their name and email address as included in the text message. The pledge is recorded against the contact and an email or text sent to the contact thanking them for their support. The contact history is updated to record the events.
  • Requests for information. An information page providing advice is shown on television following a controversial story line in a soap. Interested parties send a text to a published number with their email address in the message body. Upon receipt, the ProgressCRM database is searched for a matching record. If none is found, a new record is created. An information booklet in an electronic format is then emailed to the contact and the contact history updated. A small percentage of the SMS text charge is contributed by the service provider to funds.
  • Querying and updating records. A member wishes to enrol for an event. A text is sent to a pre-published number containing the members name and the code for the event that they wish to enrol into. Upon receipt, the members record is located using a combination of their name and mobile phone number. The member is enrolled into the event and a text message is sent back them informing them that their request has been successful. The member's event history is updated to reflect the activities.

All of the scenarios above share a common attribute; that is that they are all completely automated and require no human intervention apart from the original input by the sponsor, member or donor.

The SMS Inbound module is an add on to Task Centre and offers a broad range of configurable options that can be changed at any time by the system administrator.
